WHO IS YOUR NHS HERO?

The NHS is currently the fifth largest organisation in the world and employs more than 1.7 million people. With 49 per cent of those employed in non-medical roles it’s time to look beyond the frontline of the NHS and recognise those ‘behind the scenes’. From caterers, porters and bed managers to medical secretaries, clinical coders and receptionists, there are thousands of people working hard to improve our healthcare service and ensure you receive the right care when you need it. Across the UK these conscientious and diligent staff members are making a difference to the lives of millions. Now is the time to say thank you and give back with a sign of their achievements; an Unsung Heroes award.

Celebrate the efforts and can-do attitude of a non-medical or non-clinical NHS professional who you think deserves recognition for the wonderful work they do every day. Whether they stay late, go that little bit further in their duties or have shown they are a true credit to our NHS, now is the time to give back to the superheroes of our healthcare sector. Nominate your Unsung Hero and give them a January treat with this special award as well as the prize of an iPad Mini.

Last year saw three winners shine through for their hard work in a non-medical NHS role and win the Unsung Heroes award from the GoToJobBoard team.

Ghislaine Webster, who won for her contributions as an Administrative Assistant in the East Cheshire NHS Trust, said: “It’s the little things, like a simple thank you that mean so much. It’s nice to know that by being lovely you’re making a positive difference to their life.  A lot of people think the NHS is just doctors, nurses and ambulance drivers, but it’s so much more.”

A sentiment echoed by another of last year’s winners, Sue Buckley from the Audiology department of the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch. She said: “We all contribute to the smooth running of the NHS, even though there are lots of jobs and everyone does something different, we are all cogs of a big machine and it couldn’t function without everyone being there.”

With a workforce of nearly 2 million, it’s time to reward those that keep our NHS running and go above and beyond every day. The non-medical side of the NHS is often underappreciated and now it’s your chance to say thank you.
