‘We share because we care’ shows what an impact not having access to patient records can make in an emergency situation. Filmed in a mock-up of the single rooms due to be opened at the new Royal Liverpool Hospital, the film depicts a patient who has been brought in to Accident and Emergency, unconscious and unresponsive. It is based on the real life situations many doctors go through when choosing courses of treatment, and due to the way health records are accessed across the system, they are working with no previous patient history. This means that often it is unknown what medication, allergies and existing conditions patients may have.
Dr Simon Bowers, GP at Fulwood Green Medical Centre, Vice Chair of NHS Liverpool CCG and Healthy Liverpool Clinical Director for Digital Care and Innovation said, “We are delighted with the way the film has turned out, feedback from members of the public, colleagues and partners has been overwhelmingly positive.” “The bottom line is that having access to the right health care records at the right time can mean the difference between life and death. The sharing agreement that has been implemented via the iLinks sharing framework and Healthy Liverpool is one of the first in the country and we are incredible proud of the hard work that has taken place across the city to roll out the programme.”
Healthy Liverpool is a major plan to improve the health of people in the city, making sure that the health and social care system is focused on the needs of patients. It will support more of us to stay well for longer, ensuring the best care and treatment is available when needed.
Dr Nadim Fazlani, is a local GP and Chair of NHS Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which is the organisation leading Healthy Liverpool. He said: “Healthy Liverpool is about helping all of us to feel the benefit of living healthier lives, and making sure that services provided in the city are of the highest standard and meet the needs of patients. “We are looking at a wide range of issues, from getting people active, to care being available closer to home, as well as hospital services, urgent and emergency care and digital care and innovation."
