Transforming healthcare in England’s Core Cities

During a particularly tedious train journey, I took advantage of the intermittent wifi (don't get me started on that ....) to have a browse and came across an interesting report from NHS Clinical Commissioners - didn't know they existed? Nope neither did I!

NHS Clinical Commissioners is the independent membership organisation of clinical commissioning groups. They provide CCGs with a strong collective voice and represent them in the national debate on the future of healthcare in England. They facilitate shared learning; and deliver networking opportunities for members so that local clinicians can commission the best possible services for their patients and populations.

So now you know! Their website is interesting http://www.nhscc.org/  so have a browse.

FullSizeRenderI particularly liked this mythbusting infographic http://www.nhscc.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/NHSCC-info-graphic.pdf

Their report entitled 'Transforming healthcare in England’s Core Cities' looks at how CCGs in England’s Core Cities are taking up the challenge set out in the Five Year Forward View and transforming the way in which healthcare is delivered to the benefit of their local population.

Developing new partnerships, ensuring equity of care across diverse populations, improving wellbeing, and finding better ways to provide healthcare services are the key themes of the report.

A range of new approaches are featured in the report :
  • devolution in Manchester;
  • a large scale social prescribing programme in Newcastle
  • a scheme ensuring patients in Birmingham receive the same standard of care from their GP regardless of which practice they attend;
  • a GP surgery based clinic to support women affected by female genital mutilation in Bristol.
You can read the report here Transforming healthcare in England’s core cities its only 10 pages and worth a cup of builders and a chocolate hobnob!
