Getting in the water can sometimes be ‘far more powerful’ compared to other healthcare interventions, as seen through the new ‘Swimming as Medicine’ series launched by Swim England.
The national governing body has teamed up with the Royal College of GPs (RCGP) to encourage healthcare professionals to consider recommending swimming and aquatic activity to their patients.
The series outlines how transformative being active in water can be for individuals, and the initial video features Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi, a GP in Leamington Spa and RCGP Lifestyle and Physical Activity Clinical Champion. He shares his thoughts and offers suggestions to other healthcare professionals on having physical activity conversations around swimming with their patients in an emotive film, featuring a patient Darren who also explains how he used swimming to recover following discharge from intensive care following covid-19 infection.
Film #2 in the series will be launched on 14th June 2023 - see Swim England's news page and social media to watch it once live: https://www.swimming.org/swimengland/tag/health-and-wellbeing/
