SaTH have introduced a new debrief & bereavement support service for staff thanks to a kind donation to the swan fund and funding from HEE & SaTH Charity from Captain Tom funds.

Our staff need support now more than every, the Swan EOLC Service feel passionate about supporting our staff before, during and beyond Covid19 and have been:

  • visiting wards since March offering 121 & team debriefs
  • offering support to staff following a bereavement, since September the Swan EOLC Lead nurse has worked one day a week in this new staff bereavement support service role supported by the Swan EOLC Service, by team members working extra bank hours to backfill the lead nurse, we are supporting many staff following a bereavement
  • signposting to other support services as required
  • this month we also set up a SaTH SOBS Staff Support Group and the first meeting is later in October supporting staff who have been bereaved by the death of a loved one, friend or colleague by suicide

We plan lots of workshops & further improvements to this service next year when we can do more face to face training. However, staff need our support now so we are doing lots of MS Teams support meetings & social distanced support at this time.

We use the OWEN model created by the Swan EOLC Service at SaTH in memory of Joan Owen and the 3R’s Rest when you can, reflect and recover.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this important work, it is making such a difference at the hardest of times.

Jules Lewis Swan EOLC Facilitator / Lead Nurse
