The Plastic Surgery & Burns Department at Royal Preston Hospital has taken part in a 2020 Calendar Girls-style charity calendar
to mark their 50th anniversary.
The Burns & Plastics Beauties 2020 Calendar showcases some of the unique treatments and techniques used to treat patients.
The entire team of consultants, doctors, nurses, therapists and administrators got involved to celebrate the service they provide and to raise funds for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation, in tribute to their well-loved colleague and occupational therapist
Heather Mann, who passed away from cancer in October of this year.
Lisa Moon, Clinical Lead Physiotherapist at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “As well as celebrating the team and specialist service we provide, the calendar is a celebration of our skin. A lot of the patients we care for experience changes in body image, and as a multi-disciplinary team, there is a lot we can do to help them. Micro pigmentation, which is a form of tattooing, tailor-made pressure garments which help manage swelling and treat scarring and cosmetic camouflage all help to rebuild patients’ confidence and self-esteem.”
Nicola Senior, Specialist Physiotherapist at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, added: “The physiotherapists, including myself, feature in October because it is breast cancer awareness month, and we work with a lot of breast cancer patients who have undergone reconstructive surgery and need help to regain their previous mobility, function and shoulder movement. The enthusiasm of all departmental staff to promote our service has been amazing.”
The calendar’s photos have been shot by Catherine Lamoon, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Senior Multimedia Developer and Medical Photographer. The calendar’s print and production costs have been covered by sponsorship from both local businesses and departmental suppliers, so that its ten pounds sale price can be donated in full to Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
Calendars are on sale from the therapy department, Ward 4 or the Rosemere Cancer Centre, or by emailing [email protected].
