Password Reset Issues

There's been a number of reports on the site recently about people trying to reset their password and getting an email that sends them to a page with a message saying "Sorry, that key does not appear to be valid". It seems this email is being generated by a page that is part of the default Wordpress installation, but is not one we are actively using on fabnhsstuff.net.

If you have received an email directing you to a link like http://fabnhsstuff.net/wp-login.php?action=rp&key=FLIJ20pAwP4WyV3tsCWz then please ignore it, and instead use http://fabnhsstuff.net/lostpassword/ to reset your password.

Don't worry - this isn't a hack or some scam, and if you have used this then you haven't compromised your credentials. It's just a part of the site that we're not using and will soon whip out, much like an appendix.

Some of you may have registered using that part of the site, or logged in through it. While this isn't the preferred method, they should still work normally, except that you won't have been able to pick your password on registration and it will have been emailed to you instead. We would recommend to anyone who had their password emailed to them that they change it whenever is convenient.

Finally, here's the part where you can help us out. We've been puzzled through all of this about how so many people seem to have ended up on those pages. As far as we're aware, they're not linked to anywhere on the site or from anywhere else on the internet. If you've used a page on our site that looks like the one below, please use the messaging system on the site (which you can hopefully now successfully log into) to send me (nick) details about how you got there and, if you think it might be relevant, how you're accessing the site (desktop/mobile, which browser, whether you're behind an NHS firewall, etc.). Any further information you can provide will be a great help to us.

If you've been affected by this then I'd like to thank you for your patience, and if you haven't been affected then you can ignore this whole post and get back to reading, voting on and submitting more Fab Stuff, which I'm sure we can all agree is much more interesting than boring technical issues.
