Opportunity to promote digital skills and careers

A member of staff at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been invited to be part of a local network to promote digital skills and careers.

Saeed Umar, Head of Technical Services at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, has accepted an invitation to join the Steering Group for the Lancashire Digital Skills Partnership.

The Lancashire Digital Skills Partnership is a group of public, private and charity sector organisations that work together to address the digital skills needs of the county. This includes items such as inspiring young people and improving employability skills, growing and advancing apprenticeships, improving the level of digitals to meet the needs of the digital sector, enabling an inclusive workforce, and engaging employers with the programme of work.

Saeed has been selected to join the group after having successfully integrated digital apprenticeships into the technology services team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals; as well as supporting local careers events to promote digital careers to young people. This has included involvement in the local Chorley “Hack” event which invited local school students to take part in digital challenges; to promote careers in the field. Saeed has also recently supported a work placement student to gain an apprenticeship within the team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Saeed said: “I am pleased to have been invited to join the Lancashire Digital Skills Partnership and hope that this will provide a platform to further our work in promoting careers within digital. Our technology services team encourages the development of young adults and ensuring that all students and young people have access to work experience to help them shape their career paths.”

Kerry Harrison, Digital Skills Coordinator at the Lancashire Digital Skills Partnership, said: “The partnership would benefit from the innovative approach that Saeed brings to the digital services at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, and his experience of working within a digital role in a sector other than digital would also bring a new and important dynamic to the steering group.”
