The vanguard, which is developing 120 standards across 28 areas of orthopaedics, created the guide following a coding and costing workshop earlier this year.
One key learning from the session was the lack of coding training available to clinicians across the NOA membership. The guide has been designed for clinicians to provide them with an insight into coding best practice. It explains the basics and common pitfalls of coding in orthopaedics. Clinicians and coders from across the NOA membership contributed to the guide.
Andy Wheeler, Head of Coding for the NOA said, “Good quality coding is an essential component of modern healthcare provision. By working in partnership, clinicians and coding teams can support high quality, safer care and more productive coding. We hope this guide is a way for healthcare professionals working within orthopaedics to do just that.”
More detailed guidance, including the full NOA suite of standards will be available to members once the vanguard launches its quality standards.
