The aim of the centre is to enable people who require support for daily living to access support and advice to help them. The centre offers a free and impartial service to Island residents who are looking for equipment and advice to enhance their independence.
People who require support are assessed to see which aids and adaptations might meet their needs. They are able to try out a range of different equipment to help them to decide what is best for them. The centre has areas set up as the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom to enable people to try out aids and adaptations in a more realistic setting.
The aim of the service is to enable people to try before they buy.
The centre has a wide range of resources that go beyond the scope of aids and adaptations, and therefore can offer people advice on many aspects of daily living. It is staffed by the Independent Living Centre Managers and Co-ordinators and work in partnership with the Occupational Therapy service from the Isle of Wight NHS, hosting 2 occupational therapy assistant clinics a week.
