#TheBlonde explores the reality of children living with a parent with alcohol dependency

Did you know that 1 in 5 children in the UK live with a parent who drinks too much?

No I didn't either

Makes you think doesn't it?

Last week I listened to Jon Ashworth Shadow Secretary for Health talk about his childhood, his father was an alcoholic and his fathers alcohol dependency had far reaching consequences for his family.

You can listen to him discuss the issues and his rational for speaking up about his experience  here

Reflecting on what I had heard I explored the resources available to support young people living with a parent with alcohol dependency.

I found the website  National Association for Children of Alcoholics websites  http://www.nacoa.org.uk/ and had a browse - they have an amazing amount of support resources. I was was particularly interested to read the 6C's - yes its those 'C's' again but this time they are related to can do's - brilliant

Remember the Six "C"s

I didn't cause it

I can't control it

I can't cure it

I can take care of myself

I can communicate my feelings

I can make healthy choices
