Staff at Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) have taken part in a rap video to raise awareness of pressure ulcers.

Eliminating avoidable pressure ulcers at LCHS became a service priority in 2012. The pledge incorporated not only inpatient hospital wards, but also the community nursing and therapy teams spread across rural Lincolnshire.

The brief was to engage qualified and non-qualified clinical staff to achieve this service priority and to improve patient care.

Campaign objectives included:

• raising awareness of the campaign and its intended outcomes

• increasing awareness of preventative measures staff can take

• encouraging staff to report pressure ulcers at the first possible opportunity and highlight ‘at risk’ patients

• educating staff about what help and support is available

• encouraging staff to undertake joint working with external partners, such as nursing homes.

A rap was written by Melanie Wright, staff then recorded a video of them performing it to spread the message.

Here's the full video:

Bum rap lyrics: Don’t let you bum go numb

If your bum grows numb

You’ll soon feel glum

If it’s feeling sore

Then move some more

If it’s turning red

Get out your bed

If it’s getting worse

Then call your nurse

If your flesh is thin

Then watch your skin

If you’ve plenty there

Then still take care

Move some more

To prevent that sore

And save your bum

From feeling numb
