Launch of new infographic supports healthcare professionals with the management of ME/CFS featured image

The second in a series of infographic posters, designed to support healthcare professionals with the management of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), has been released by The ME Association.

With good initial management increasing the likelihood of stabilisation and improvement, having the correct resources available to healthcare professionals, in an easily accessible and easy-to-read format, is vital to support the growing number of people living with ME/CFS.

The comprehensive infographic includes expert information from Dr Charles Shepherd (Honorary Medical Adviser to The ME Association), to help guide clinicians on the overall management of ME/CFS, and covers:

1. Early and accurate diagnosis

2. Information and guidance as soon as a diagnosis ME/CFS is suspected

3. Recognise and manage co-morbidities that may be present.

4. Explains who should manage people with ME/CFS

5. Severe and very severe ME/CFS

6. Activity and energy management – pacing

7. Symptom management

8. Diet, nutrition and supplements

9. DWP benefits and social care

10. Education and employment

A range of advice is provided covering each of the 10 points, from how people are affected by severe ME/CFS, and the benefits that people can access, to why pacing mental and physical activity is the most important aspect of management.

Dr Charles Shepherd said, “It’s not uncommon for people living with ME/CFS to wait several years for a diagnosis, leading to a significant delay in receiving the right advice and guidance – and this is an issue that we seek to overcome. The ME Association equips healthcare professionals with the information and guidance needed to encourage early and accurate diagnosis, and provides advice on what support to provide. Our latest infographic highlights 10 key areas to help aid the overall management of ME/CFS – an invaluable resource for clinicians.”
