Problem The patient garden outside Beeston Ward was past its best. There was no colour, plants were overgrown and the greenhouse had broken panels. Impact The area was not a nice environment for patients and their families to sit and relax reducing the space available to relax and recover away from the ward. Idea  Ward receptionist Diane Morris had the idea to improve the garden for patients and their families and applied for funding through our ‘Just Do It’ scheme. With the help of the local Rotary Club, the greenhouse was repaired and the garden is full of herbs, flowers and vegetables. Benefits Patients can recover and relax in the garden enjoying the health benefits of the outdoors and can enjoy a sensory experience in the fragrant, colourful garden. Patients are also able to learn gardening skills as part of their continued therapy and rehabilitation. Diane Morris, Beeston ward receptionist
