We all know that good physical health can be a key part of overall wellbeing, and with this in mind we have developed a great service model which has increased the level of gym facilitation, gym access, fitness and wellbeing for our service users.
Our health & exercise practitioner Nicola Mirfin and therapy team not only provide assessment and support for service users to access positive healthy lifestyle choices, including the gym, they also support identified staff to undertake a nationally recognised qualification to become a fitness instructor.
A number of health care assistants have taken up the opportunity alongside their existing roles, and as such are providing tailored gym, fitness and physical health sessions that best meet the needs of the individual service users.
Staff are reporting that alongside the benefits of physical fitness, other notable benefits include increased confidence and motivation, increased ability to cope with stress and anxiety and overall improvements in reported self-worth.
It's great to see posters for circuit training and high intensity impact training on our walls!
Oh, and did I mention this initiative also received a Trust Excellence Award!
