In 1968 Britain’s first heart transplant was carried out by a team of 18 doctors and nurses in London. When surgeons at The National Heart Hospital perform the transplant, it was only the tenth time the procedure has ever been performed. Frederick West was the recipient of a heart from Patrick Ryan. Although West died of an infection nine weeks after the operation, the procedure paves the way for around 300 heart transplants to be performed each year in Britain.
In 2010 British pensioner Kenneth Crocker, 70, was the world’s first patient to have heart surgery using a fully remote-controlled robotic arm. The operation took place at Glenfield Hospital, Leicestershire.
In 2011 Matthew Green, 40, became the first UK patient to receive and artificial plastic heart implant at Papworth Hospital, Cambridgeshire.....
and that's a fact!
