Hello my name is Jules Lewis EOLC Facilitator & Lead Nurse.
I just wanted to share what an amazing week we had for Dying Matters Week May 2018.Dying Matters every day and every week & not only during this week however it is a great opportunity to raise awareness & get people talking about death & dying.
At Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust as always we had an amazing & busy week with lots of events for staff and the public. We started the week with UHNM Joe Potts had arranged a great conference in Stoke & we shared our dying matters at SaTH poster presentation.
Tuesday we had a public event Elin Roddy Clinical Lead, Jules Lock Lead Volunteer & I had an hour to talk to people, the room was packed with over 60 members of public & staff.
Thursday we had a fabulous sharing event 30 staff from other Trusts were invited to hear about our great EOLC improvements, the swan scheme and our future plans. There were many stands covering EOL & Bereavement care, Care after Death, Mouth Care, Renal Care & Cedar Training & tours of our Swan Bereavement Suite. Chris Pointon was our key speaker sharing Kate's story a reminder of the little things are the big things & to celebrate our wonderful NHS.
EOLC Champions & Volunteers were invited to a thank you afternoon tea and cake celebration & we had some amazing singing from our Swan Song. On Friday we shared this important work with Staff within SaTH at a stand up sharing event, asking staff to think about what they want to do before they die & how they would like to be remembered?
It was a fabulous week & we are already planning Dying Matters at SaTH 2019 save the date for our EOL & Bereavement Care Conference May 16th 2019.
Thank you to everyone that helped with this important week & every week you are all special people.
We have one chance to get it right for every person every time. @JulesLewis6 EOLC Facilitator at SaTH.
