Cards and Clocks

Cards and Clocks featured image
Problem Orthopaedic patients get a lot of post-operative delirium and dementia patients can be disorientated. Impact Dementia patients explain that one day can be much like another when staying on a ward and post-operative orthopaedic patients with delirium experience similar problems. Idea To get clocks that show the day and date alongside the time to help orientate patients with dementia as they become more aware of time passing and their stay in hospital At the same time bring in packs of playing cards and dominoes to help patients pass the time when they are being cohorted one to one. This stimulation encourages activity and faster recovery for post-operative patients. Benefit Vulnerable patients are more aware of where they are each day and are kept more active. Encourages quicker recovery and makes the stay of vulnerable patients a better experience. Lynette James, Staff Nurse
