Are patient webinars the way forward for #futurehealth?

Using webinars with patients has transformed our specialist dietetic gastroenterology service in Somerset, reducing 1-1 referral rates by 44% and allowing us the chance to expand and take on other specialist conditions.

The webinars are popular with all age groups with the 64-75 year olds being our largest cohort showing that age is not a discriminating factor when using technology.

95% of patients said they would recommend the webinars to a friend, and those stating fair/good/excellent knowledge in their condition rose from 52% prior the webinar to 96% post webinar.

Our IBS webinar is now up on NHS UK (previously NHS Choices) as a trial to see if this form of patient education can work at a national level.

Any UK NHS department, CCG or HCP can use our webinars completely free of charge with their patients if they wish to and all our webinars are on our NHS website: www.patientwebinars.co.uk.

The project won the NHS Digital AHP Digital Practice Award in 2018 and I was honoured to win the NHS England AHP of the Year.
