Bio

I am a consultant colorectal surgeon, and alongside my clinical commitments, I work as the Associate Medical Director for Quality Improvement at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow. I started work as a consultant colorectal surgeon at Homerton Hospital in 2003, before moving to my current trust in 2017.

Throughout my career, I have worked to transform services and improve patient care through a number of senior leadership roles, both within my organisation and the wider NHS. I have gained experience supporting the digital agenda as the Clinical Lead for a multi-million pound trust wide EPR deployment and as a Physician advocate for Cerner®. I have enjoyed working at system wide level as the lead for governance and standards of the London Cancer Colorectal pathway board for 5 years and the Secondary Care Board member for West Hampshire CCG for 3 years. At present I am working with the Eastern Academic Health Science Network as the regional clinical lead for the Emergency Laparotomy Collaborative, using quality improvement methodology to improve the outcomes for this group of patients. For me Quality Improvement and working alongside the Academy of Fabulous stuff is all about improving patient outcomes and experience – as well as being much more fun and effective than traditional audit.
