Extra training is available as part of the Vanguard’s Complex Care Premium helping staff to feel more confident in dealing with residents with complex care needs.
Training is across six key pathways – dementia, nutrition, engagement and wellbeing, falls, fragility, wound management and health (including end of life, continence, neurological and respiratory conditions.)
Homes receive up to 18 days training and learn to be mentors to spread the messages to all staff.
Care homes taking part in the pioneering project receive a ‘premium’ payment for residents with complex care needs, to support the cost of additional training.
The CCP recognises that confident, well trained and expertly supported care home staff play a vital role in providing high quality care to frail elderly people.
