The project is open to all care homes in Widnes, with each able to access up to 16 sessions of chair based physical activity, walking rugby, and sports reminiscence which will be based around the history of Widnes Vikings. In addition, the project will pioneer an inter care home games event at the Select Security Stadium in 2016.
'Golden Point' will be a key project in supporting older people living in care homes to access both physical activity and social reminiscence opportunities led by members of staff from the Vikings community team. Adding value to existing projects delivered across the partnership, 'Golden Point' will aim to tackle isolation, promote positive mental and physical wellbeing, and promote social interaction across participants.
Richard Munson, Community Integrated Director at Widnes Vikings said: "The project has been created with a real understanding as to the health benefits of keeping active in your older years and we look forward to establishing close working relationships with the care homes that ultimately benefit their residents."
‘Golden Point’ has been commissioned for a pilot one year period and will aim to engage a minimum of 250 people aged 55 and above.
