Using a QI approach to address recruitment and retention of newly qualified clinical staff

Recruitment and retention is recognised as a challenge our Trust @southern_nhsft needs to address, so it was great to hear from Louise Whiddington, @LouWhiddington head of nursing and AHPs about how mid and north hants division were addressing this issue by applying a QI approach to the problem.

Hear what success they have had by allowing themselves the time and space to recognise what the actual problem is, get the stats and feedback to support this, try something new, work with colleagues within the trust who could bring that expertise to solve the problem and what the outcomes have been – and how they have never looked back since.

Long term investment in training and developing our staff seems to be the way forward, and by thinking creatively about the pathway from recruitment to retention they could identify areas for improvement, to the extent where their improvement resulted in a significant reduction in the number of staff leaving the trust.

“I thought it was a brilliant interview, we couldn’t ask for a better advocate of the QI approach” Dean Garrett, Head of QI @shft_transforms

And it’s so great to hear how Louise loves QI and all it brings…and how the training helped and inspired her to use her skills to make a real difference to our Trust. Thank you Louise.
