I first came across the idea for my pledge back in March at the Do-A-Thon which was my first FAB meeting.

Adapting what I learnt I developed the 4Ws. Welcome, Warmth, Water & Wellbeing.

Our patients dignity is extremely important to us but even more vitally important to them.

An area which gave me cause for concern was when patients leave the ward for X-rays/scans, either in a wheelchair/bed/trolley as there seemed to be some inconsistency.

So the 4Ws were invented and I shared them with our portering supervisor who has embedded them with all the portering staff.

During our discussions on how this would provide our patients with a better experience I discovered the portering department is not measured through our FFT so do not recieve regular feedback.

I will monitor the FFT monthly feedback to see if our patients comment about our portering staff.

WELCOME- hellomynameis

WARMTH- dignity

WATER- hydration

WELLBEING- safety

The 4Ws poster is now on every ward and shared through our sisters meetings. The next step is to advertise the 4Ws more widely through out the hospital and the other sites by posters in the corridors and public areas.
