Therapeutic Space for Detainees in Police Custody

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust - Heatherdene

What have we changed?

We have been able to provide a therapeutic space for detainees to be assessed whilst in Police custody. With the help of Police Staff, we have been allocated a room which we have been able to transform into a safe space which feels less like an interview room. it has been decorated with fresh paint, new flooring and comfortable furniture. We listened to feedback from our clients who felt that being assessed by our service in a police interview room was anxiety provoking. Some did not feel comfortable to speak about their issues.

How did this benefit service users and / or staff

This room will hopefully make clients feel less anxious and safe enough to talk about some of their issues. We are hoping to break down the barriers for clients assessing our service in custody. Within the room we will be able to display information for clients to see and provide more information about.

Why are you proud of your Fab Change 19?

The room signifies the importance of our service in custody and makes us as a team feel valued. There have been a number of people involved in arranging this including Police, facilities and the involvement centre. This makes it even more of an achievement as other agencies have been involved.

The room is almost complete and we are just waiting for a notice board and some art work to be put up donated from the Trust's Recovery College.
