Take maternity pressure ulcers - between April 2009 and March 2014 there were 39 claims for pressure ulcer damage to women in maternity units - who knew?
34 of the claims were successful.
All the women had received an epidural and no risk assessment was recorded prior to giving the epidural - one claimant was recorded as noting she was initially unable to call the midwife because she couldn't move because of the epidural, presumably not being able to reach the call bell. She eventually used her mobile phone to call the desk for help. I have to say that didn't make for comfortable reading.
