A little gift to remind newly qualified nurses of key skills required to survive their days on the wards was introduced by Sam McCarthy-Phull Clinical Education Nurse.
Sam wanted to provide a meaningful welcome gift to the new nurses that wouldn’t break the bank. She searched online for ideas and put together a mini survival gift consisting of:
A paper clip - a reminder to hold it together at work
A rubber band - a reminder you need to be flexible
A button - because occasionally we need to button our lips
Tissues - to wipe the tears of sadness and laughter
Love hearts - because we deserve to be loved
And finally a motivational hand written note in a brown envelope which reads ‘having a bad day? OPEN Me’
Sam says it’s only a little gesture but a thoughtful one she hopes they’ll appreciate to start them on their journey of what is a very exciting yet daunting time.
