We are increasingly hearing from children that their wishes and desires are to learn the important childhood skill of riding a bike. The group has been set up to accommodate ten children of primary school age who have coordination and/or motor difficulties.
The aims of the group are:
• To develop skills required for successfully riding a bike
• To build on self-esteem and social interaction with peers
• To increase evidence base
• To evidence future treatment interventions for this cohort of children
• To support parents to access community resources
• To encourage an active lifestyle to help prevent secondary impairments
Learning to ride a bike is part and parcel of growing up but for some children it can be quite challenging.
Throughout the summer staff from Springboard Child Development have been working with Watchtree Wheelers to improve the cycling skills of a group of young riders. In the process all of the participants have gained skills, confidence and friends.
