Patients based at Springview – provided by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) - worked alongside the unit’s nurses, consultants and occupational therapists to prepare dozens of cakes, scones and buns to raise money for the Alzheimer Society’s Cupcake Day – the charity’s national awareness raising campaign.
In addition to baking and selling, patients and visitors also enjoyed a raffle, afternoon tea and games in the unit’s garden.
Sarah Quinn, CWP Wirral General Manager, said: “I’d like to say a huge well done to the Springview team for all their hard work it was a fantastic day for all involved. In addition to raising a wonderful amount for charity, events like this really support the mental health and wellbeing of some of our community’s most vulnerable. As always they have gone the extra mile and deserve to be celebrated.”The event also coincided with the opening of Springview’s new ‘therapy kitchen’, which will enable more people accessing the service to receive the therapeutic benefits that cooking and preparing fresh meals can bring to mental health.
Ashley Dodd, Alzheimer’s Society Community Fundraiser for the area, said: “It’s wonderful that Springview has raised over £500 for Alzheimer’s Society’s Cupcake Day. These funds will go towards helping Alzheimer’s Society provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia. “Until the day we find a cure we will be here for anyone affected by dementia. We need more organisations like CWP to join us now and unite against dementia.”
Springview is CWP’s mental health inpatient unit based at Clatterbridge Health Park.
It comprises of two acute mental health wards for adults of working age, an older people’s mental health ward, an eating disorders ward and a psychiatric intensive care unit.
Springview contains a number of state of the art healing rooms and gardens. It also has gym facilities, a cyber cafe, spiritual care room and activity centre.
