Social media taking GP Practices by storm in Stoke On Trent

Over a third of GP Practices in Stoke on Trent are now using social media to communicate with patients. Using a variety of channels such as Facebook, Twitter and You Tube, the project is part of the CCG's strategy to develop different forms of technology to improve services.

Practices are trained and supported to maintain the sites themselves, building its use into their day to day business. By 'fishing where the fish are' the practices not only use social media to communicate practice news but they also use it to discuss topical issues such as monthly DNA (did not attend) data.

There is also an innovative use of closed Facebook groups for online PPGs and online closed diabetes and weight management groups where nursing staff interact with patients in closed groups.

2015/16 will see a roll out to a further 20 practices meaning that by the end of the year two thirds of practices will be regularly using social media.
