Silver trauma simulation courses, whilst excellent, are difficult to rota and book on with capacity often an issue.
We designed and created a simulation course specifically for nurses, about silver trauma.
The scenarios were based on clinical incidents and common silver trauma presentations to the ED, and we made sure that they were relevant.
Debriefs focused on the clinical knowledge, rather than human factors, and integrated trauma care and silver trauma care.
By the end of the four hour course, our participants were excellent at silver trauma care including immobilisation, recognition of delirium causes, #havetheconversation and triggering ceiling of care discussions, inpatient falls protocol, CT head guidelines, pain management, triage and activation of the trauma team.
