Safer transfers secured

img_1060.jpegProblem Specialist child restraints are used to secure young children and babies on the retrieval trolley when they are being transported between hospitals.

To comply with infection control guidelines these harnesses should be washed at 90 degrees following each use. This can sometimes lead to restraints being unavailable in the right place at the right time.

Impact The correct harness size may not always be available when required.

Idea To invest in more sets of restraints to ensure a back-up stock is always to hand in the Paediatric Critical Care Unit. Benefits When restraints have been used and are being washed there is always another set ready. This means infection control is maintained, safety is never jeopardised and time is saved for staff as they don’t have to chase other sets from elsewhere.
