Impact A staff office room was sometimes used to offer privacy but it was rather an impersonal and uncomfortable room. It was also difficult for relatives to wait there and talk privately together when staff needed to use the space as an office. This could add to distress at an already difficult time.
Idea To convert a disused bathroom into a designated family room creating a comfortable, dedicated space for families and carers.
Benefits There is now area where carers, families and staff discuss sensitive information in comfort and without interruption. The room is a pleasant environment with comfortable seating and relatives and carers can wait in the room without being disturbed by staff needing to use the room as an office.
