PATIENT LEADERSHIP DONE WELL

imagePatient Leadership Programme Oxford

During 2014, ten patient representatives and ten NHS professionals from across the Oxford Academic Health Science Network region came together to learn and develop patient leadership.

This pilot Patient Leadership Programme was the first of its kind to bring together patients and senior NHS staff to learn with and from each other  to develop joint approaches to strategic leadership.

The overall feedback was extremely positive, with one patient participant saying it gave them confidence and inspired them to apply to be part of the local Clinical Commissioning Group assurance process.

We have also learned from the elements which didn’t go so well, and are making improvements to the next version of the Patient Leadership Programme taking place later in 2015.

Go to the AHSN website  www.oxfordahsn.org to read the full evaluation of the Patient Leadership Programme pilot. This project is being followed with interest by colleagues including other AHSNs, NHS England and the King’s Fund.
