Nurses from Cumberland Infirmary excel in Trauma Training

All staff from the A & E Department at the Cumberland Infirmary who attended a recent course have passed Major Trauma Network Nurse Training. They were the only hospital in the north east and Cumbria to get a 100% pass rate.

Rebecca Hill, Clinical Educator and Sister in A & E said “Everyone has worked so hard to achieve level two of the Major Trauma Network Nurse Training. We are so proud of the team. This now means that there will be additional skills to manage trauma patients better and other staff will also learn from this. In addition it has helped with meeting the recommendations of the CQC standards.”

Dr Jackie Gregson Network Clinical Director of the course said: “Carlisle have shone this year and are the only unit from all Major Trauma Centres and Trauma Units that have had all their candidates successfully achieve level two status.”

Rebecca Hill, explained that there are plans to upskill more of the A&E workforce: “Almost all staff in Carlisle’s emergency department are trained to level one status and I have now already requested places for six nurses on the 2019 course to reach level two. “

The nurses who all passed are Rebecca Hill, Katie Allison, Bridget Grain, Ed Jones (who was also recommended to be an instructor), Leanne Cromwell and Mike Apps.

The training course is a two day event which involves preparation work prior to the course beginning as well as a written and a practical element.
