Delivering on the vision of the NHS Maternity Five year Forward View, Better Births Report, the North West London Local Maternity System has recently launched a 'mum and baby' app, which will provide all the information women and their partners need to make plans and choices about their maternity care.
From the start of pregnancy to early parenthood, the mum & baby app will support women and their families with:
- choice on where to give birth in North West London
- access to essential information for all stages of the maternity journey
- personalised plans for their care during pregnancy, birth and beyond.
The app is available on iOS and Android.
The Mum and Baby App enables North West London Local Maternity System to deliver on two key areas of Better Births report:
Better Births recommendation 1: Offering women Choice and Personalisation:
The app
" acts as a "choice" platform, to promote choice of birth setting and provides easily accessible detailed information on giving birth in North West London
" acts as a "single point of access" for maternity booking information
" enables women to create a digital personalised maternity care plan along with their health professionals
" supports personalised detail through 'my pregnancy appointment calendar and notes section'
" links to information relevant to local hospital and services, e.g. local children's centres, ward information, tour
Better Births recommendation 2: Offering continuity of care and consistent high quality information, by providing:
" comprehensive evidence-based, clinician validated care information on all stages of the maternity pathway
" information about maternity teams and what women can expect in terms of care provision
The app has been co-developed by North West London Local Maternity System: made up of women and maternity staff from NHS maternity trusts in North West London (Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust).
