#NoGoingBack -Video Produced to Help Recovering Cardiac Patients

Staff at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust have produced a helpful video for patients unable to attend rehab sessions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Wolverhampton & Cannock team has been working hard to produce materials and find resources for all their self-isolating patients.

At the time of lock down they had about 100 patients in supervised exercise classes.

To tackle this issue the team produced a YouTube workout to send to patients. The video shows exercises suitable for patients recovering from a heart attack or heart surgery.

One of the patients who has benefited from the video is Peter Hession from Wolverhampton.

Mr Hession, 73, had heart bypass surgery on February 18th and was having rehab classes twice a week until the COVID-19 outbreak. Due to the new government guidelines the classes were cancelled.

He said: “I was sent the video after the classes were cancelled and it has been invaluable.

“Without the video I would be stumped. It is very comprehensive and easy to follow.

“My recovery has gone well so far and that is thanks to the excellent team in the Heart and Lung Centre at New Cross.

“The care has been fantastic.”

Chris Scordis, Specialist Exercise Physiologist and Lead for Cardiac Rehabilitation, said: “The feedback has been amazing, the telephone support we have been providing has been greatly received, dispelling myths about activity during isolation and giving patients guidance and routines to keep themselves active and healthy.

“A huge congratulations to the team, for all their efforts to support our patients during these unprecedented times.”
