What I changed:
Foxton Ward - musical drop in sessions with Dan Proud
How this benefited service users and / or staff:
Patients on Foxton ward have been highly motivated towards music.
Patients have been seeking advice from Dan regarding their own musical creations and ideas.
Helps to improve self esteem.
Patient comments:
“It is helpful having Dan’s advice on the music I am creating”
“The sessions are useful for those who want to learn to play instruments”
“I’m enjoying learning to play the guitar!”
Staff Comments:
“The patients appreciate the sessions, they’re being occupied with something that they are truly interested in and it is good to see patients invest their time in creating art in music. The sessions are on ward in the new Creative Expression Room which is extremely helpful for ward staff.”
OT Comments:
Patients on Foxton ward have a large interest in music. The Creative Expression room enables patients to create music and/or art in a suitable environment that hopefully encourages their creative thinking. Patients feel empowered to create their own forms of art and have been keen to seek advice/feedback from Dan Proud in the musical drop in sessions. The sessions being on ward helps to generate interest amongst those patients that watch the sessions take place in the periphery, encouraging their engagement in a meaningful activity.
Why I'm proud of it:
Patients have been enjoying these sessions - increasing ward morale. Patients feel empowered by their creations and are participating in meaningful activity.
