Since Jan 2016 UHBristol has been under contractual agreement with NHS Blood and transplant as a Tissue Donation Alliance Site expecting 100% tissue donation referral of all deceased adult patients.
In August 2016 an electronic referral process was launched, however we were still missing a high number of referrals resulting in patients not having the opportunity to donate and a potential reduction of tissue available for recipients awaiting life changing treatment.
Aim – For 100% of all adult UHB patients who die to be referred to NHS BT to ensure that they have the opportunity and are considered for potential tissue donation through the use of a new tissue donation referral tool (allows expression for those patients who do not wish to donate their tissues also).
