Allowing mobile learning the iBook offers staff the flexibility of learning within or away from their work environment.
Theory can now be undertaken prior to attending a practical face to face session away from the clinical area, releasing time to care. May be used as a refresher by all staff and can be accessed at the patient bedside. Elwin has noted that since using the iBook for teaching purposes there has been an increase in staff engagement as everyone within a session can get involved due to the interactive nature of the iBook.
It also supports individualised learning styles as staff can work through it at a time and pace that suits them.
Contents of the iBook include a variety of multimedia to suit different styles of learning,sections of written theory are supported with photographs,a video explaining and demonstrating how to record a manual blood pressure along with audio of sounds heard when recording a manual blood pressure.
The book is easy and intuitive to use and each section has a quiz to allow knowledge gained to be assessed.
