Their topic, 'Managing GI conditions in the prison service'.
The presentation included how gastrointestinal disorders are managed in the prison services, and how challenges in service provision are overcome. They also highlighted how every patient with a long-term condition is reviewed, how nurses are trained and how they manage and overcome the challenges of conditions such as Crohn's, lactose intolerance, IBS, hepatitis and alcohol dependence.
Nina along with Helen Jefford set up the first prison pulmonary rehabilitation project in 2013 resulting in national awards.
In Rochester prison Nina and the team are setting up clinics to address inequalitys in long term condition management in prisons providing equivalent care as the wider community.
The team at Rochester have won awards for successful smoking cessation services which is a challenging area however we are heading towards smoke free prisons. Always happy to share work!
