Mr Makaram Srinivasan, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, organised an international streaming of live orthopaedic surgery from theatres at Burnley which was watched by around 1500 delegates at the 10th Global ISKSAA (International Society for Knowledge for Surgeons on Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty) summit 2016 at the World Congress in New Delhi, India from 20th – 23rd November.

The summit was the largest orthopaedic super speciality signature event in South East Asia with 144 countries participating.

This process started some months ago with special permission for live streaming given by Trust Medical Directors in view of the unique educational content and its mode of delivery using the latest IT technology to demonstrate surgery and skills to a wide group of doctors, specialists, therapists and trainees.

53 live orthopaedic surgeries performed by 45 Trauma & Orthopaedic surgeons from 29 global centres of excellence in 12 different countries were demonstrated through live web based feeds through secure lines.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust was one of these. Mr Srinivasan moderated the live surgery shown in the convention hall in New Delhi while Mr Rajan Mohan & Mr Goyal performed the surgery in theatres in Burnley.

The time line and link worked extremely well and Mr Srinivasan said “I am grateful to the Trust to have given the Trauma & Orthopaedic directorate an opportunity to showcase our expertise in teaching and training with the use of state of the art IT technology.”
