In April 2016 we started a Sepsis project at the James Paget University Hospital with the aim of improving Sepsis outcomes at the Trust.
By simplifying and empowering the front line staff we have increased significantly the number of patients treated with antibiotics inside one hour and that has a tremendous impact on the patient’s outcomes. We have improved the Sepsis survival, dramatically reduced length of stay for Sepsis and despite the overall increase of ICU admissions we have managed to reduce Sepsis related admissions to ICU and readmission rates.
