Over 50 people within the care industry attended our Knowledge Hub launch event in Torquay, to see first hand the resources available and to learn from the apprenticeship and vocational training team Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.

Helen Limmer, Head of Vocational Training and Apprenticeships at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust opened the session with a welcome and explanation to current members of their original ‘Care Consortium’ set up to bring together care managers/owners, how the new Knowledge Hub will be even more beneficial to helping standardise and improve the quality of care.

Director of Health and Care Training, Richard Wyatt-Haines continued with a demonstration of the member area with its unique video library containing over 240 learning support videos and care certificate resources to help care managers implement the care certificate.

Stephanie Janka-Spurlock from the Trust’s training team then delivered an interactive workshop using a case study covering Standard 5 ‘Working in a person-centred way’.

Discussions took place on the best way to evidence the standard, with suggested answers given on how to ensure that the level of detail required was at induction level.  These standardisation workshops are part of the Knowledge Plus membership giving members the opportunity to meet twice a year to talk to other like-minded members and learn in a face to face setting.

Helen Limmer, Head of Vocational Training and Apprenticeships at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust heralds the hub as being ‘Really quite clever with very engaging content, which we hope will help reduce the demands on assessors and care managers, as well as hospitals, through fewer admissions and shorter stays’.
