Improving end of life care

Last month, the British Medical Association (BMA) published its final report into end of life care in the UK. This great film summarizes the issues of talking about dying.

A key learning point from the report was that end of life care still needs urgent attention, particularly in hospitals but it acknowledged that hospices provide the “gold standard” in end of life care.

St Mary’s Hospice in Birmingham has launched a new care homes training programme as part of the Gold Standard Framework (GSF) training programme.

The training programme was delivered to 10 care homes and was funded by Health Education West Midlands. One of the key challenges identified by care home staff in the training programme was initiating conversations about preparing for end of life.

There is an upcoming National Campaign Dying Matters Awareness Week (9 to 15 May) aand is an important opportunities for us to get people talking about and accepting the inevitable and The Blonde will be looking out for events and resources. How will you participate in  and encourage the Big Conversation?
