Over the years I have written a lot about management and leadership. Articles, books and co-authored a number of titles. This book is the shortest and the fastest to read, both in Kindle and, for people who still love a book-book and the feel of paper.
I have taken the work of four ‘management gurus’ who are not ‘the usual suspects’ and shaped their wisdom around the demands of working in health and social care. There are four stories backed up by explanations and ideas to try where you work.
It’s four chapters, in total a forty minute read, that have taken me a lifetime to assemble. Answers what I think are the real essence of management and leadership. Four things to think about.
I think these four ideas are the foundation stones of good management and leadership. Understand them and much else falls into place. Ignore them and no amount of strategy, restructuring, consultancy, technology or management jargon will rescue you.
Management, managing, leadership and followership have always fascinated me. In my columns over the years, I have tried to do the great ideas justice and point the way to a better understanding of why some organisations work well and why others don’t.
There is a foreword from Ed Smith, the newly appointed chair of the NHS Leadership Academy, so thanks to him and thanks to so many of you who have the book, have recommended it to friends and colleagues and set me on the way for the little book to being the book with the biggest impact.
I hope you enjoy reading it… it won’t take long and it might have a lasting impression on your way of working.
