Flo is a simple system which uses text messages to support people to manage their own health and wellbeing. Our film shows how Flo can help people in different ways: to manage diabetes, to live with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and to breastfeed.
Flo has had a huge impact on people’s lives, revolutionising the way patients manage their own health. Since 2010 it has been used by more than 30,000 people in over 70 health and social care organisations in the UK.
A simple to use system with a big personality, Flo shows that telehealth does not have to be about complicated technology. The technology behind Flo is fairly straightforward. Clinicians (doctors or other health professionals such as nurses or community matrons) can adjust the settings on Flo for each patient, defining when messages should be sent, what information they are asking for and how the system should respond. Flo then sends regular text messages to patients helping them to monitor their health, sharing any information sent back by the patient with the person managing their care.
