First fee-paying nursing degree course in the country

Here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals we have joined forces with the University of Bolton to develop and deliver the first nursing degree course that is not commissioned by Health Education England, to help tackle the national shortage of nurses.

We’re providing 50 places a year on a three year full time nursing degree programme, and our first student intake has just started their studies. These students are either self-funding, or funding their studies through the student loan system.

The course, which has been built on the University of Bolton’s 30-year experience as a healthcare professional courses provider, includes a wide variety of teaching and learning delivered by staff from both the university and the hospital.

Teaching will include lectures, workshops, one to one tutorials and ‘on the job’ training with hospital staff during clinical placements.

This is the culmination of months of work to establish a recognised course that is endorsed by the professional bodies, and shows what tenacity and a willingness to think differently can achieve. .
