Faster formal assessment for people recovering from traumatic brain injury

Problem Traumatic brain injury causes memory and attention problems. These are not obvious and need formal diagnostic assessment.

Assessment materials used by the Mobility Centre were shared with other teams. This could mean delay and limited flexibility for assessing patients who would also sometimes be required to be assessed elsewhere at the Hospital. Impact It took therapists approximately one hour to arrange, collect and return the assessment materials.

Not only was this a poor use of time but the other team had their own patients it meant there was less flexibility for patients in both teams and longer waits. Idea To purchase a dedicated set of assessments and patient information books for the Mobility Centre. Benefits More flexibility and fewer delays for patients, in and out of hospital, for their assessments.

Occupational Therapists have more time to care for patients and to complete more assessments. Melissa Roe, Senior Occupational Therapist, Julie Phillips, Outreach Occupational Therapist, Traumatic Brain Injury Team For further information please contact  [email protected]
