The free app, called Manage Your Health, is available on IOS and Android devices, and is the brainchild of the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN) , Stoke on Trent CCG and Keele University with clinical support from the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
Using computer generated characters, interactive quizzes and information resources; the app updates with content designed to help patients with asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and diabetes with additional conditions to follow.
The app can be used on android or apple devices, to answer commonly asked questions set by patients and answered by the clinical group who were part of the development team. It uses computer-generated characters to demonstrate key points to help manage your condition, such as effective inhaler technique.
The project team is also interested in patients becoming part of a research group who would use the new app (both children and adults) and complete a pre and post questionnaire on their experience. The app is part of a wider programme of technology enabled care launched by the WMAHSN through its Person Centred Care manifesto which offers a number of TEC solutions to help manage long term health conditions - these include Flo Telehealth, website resources, Skype and Social Media.
Following a series of roadshows across the West Midlands over 35 health and care organisations in the region have volunteered to be part of the ambitious TECs programme. You can view the app here https://appsto.re/gb/nNL-9.i
